Fashion Week Runway Murder Mystery Party

Backstage at the finale, the designer's final collection is short one designer.

6-14 players, sweet spot 9 路 the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.

It is the last show of the week. Backstage is a tangle of garment rails, hair spray, and models being pinned into looks that were finished an hour ago. The front row is filling with editors, buyers, and an influencer with more followers than the fashion house has customers. The designer was meant to take the final walk. The music cue comes. The runway stays empty. Somewhere behind the scrim, the collection has lost its creator, and everyone had access.

Playing it feels like being trapped in a backstage pass you cannot return. Everyone is stylish, exhausted, and hiding something under the tulle. Stolen sketches, unpaid invoices, a leaked lookbook. Accusations are delivered with air-kisses and knives. Your kit casts the atelier, the front row, and the crew, each with a secret and a set of clues that drop between looks. The reveal is the finale walk, and nobody knows who is closing the show.

Perfect for

Made for bachelorette parties, milestone birthdays, and any group that has ever dressed up too much for a Tuesday, with a good fit for creative-industry team nights.

Cast size

6-14 players, sweet spot 9. Every kit is written for your exact headcount and gender mix, so nobody doubles up and nobody sits out.

Who is at the party

A taste of the cast a fashion week runway kit produces. Your mystery is written fresh, with its own suspects, secrets, and one guilty guest.

The Muse Who Was Replaced

Opened every show for a decade until this season, and still has a key to the atelier.

The Editor-in-Chief

Decides which collections are relevant, has been handed a scandal, and needs a cover story by morning.

The Junior Designer

Sketches half the collection uncredited, was promised a label of their own, and has a portfolio that looks familiar.

The Backstage Dresser

Pins every look, hears every argument, and found something in a pocket that was not part of the collection.

Setting the scene

Costumes

  • All black, oversized sunglasses indoors, and a lanyard reading BACKSTAGE for the show producer.
  • One dramatic thrift-store piece (a sequined jacket, a feathered collar, a wide-brim hat) worn with total confidence for the front row.
  • A tape measure around the neck, a pin cushion on the wrist, and cardigan sleeves pushed up for the atelier staff.
  • A slip dress and a silk robe, hair in rollers, for the model caught mid-change.
  • A sharp suit and a phone that never leaves the hand for the buyer with a budget and a grudge.

Food and drink

  • A pink Champagne bar with a single raspberry dropped in each flute, the front-row standard.
  • Tiny canapes on a mirrored tray: cucumber rounds, smoked salmon blinis, and one-bite tarts, because nobody eats before a show.
  • Sparkling elderflower with a rose petal frozen in each ice cube for the models between fittings.
  • A macaron tower in the collection's colour palette, dismantled only after the killer is named.

Atmosphere

  • Tape a runway down the centre of the room with white gaffer tape and light it with a floor lamp at each end.
  • Roll a garment rail into the room and hang a few dramatic pieces on it as the collection under suspicion.
  • Playlist: pulsing house and electro-pop at runway tempo, dropped to silence for the accusation round.
  • Fold cardboard front-row seat cards with each guest's character name and publication.

Host tip

Give the runway a job. Each round, have one guest walk it while reading their public statement aloud; it gets shy players moving and makes clue delivery theatrical. Keep a garment rail nearby with a printed clue pinned inside a pocket each round. For the reveal, kill the music, aim one lamp at the end of the runway, and have the accused take the final walk as you read the solution.

How your kit comes together

1

Set the table

Pick Fashion Week Runway, your player count and gender mix, the difficulty, and the tone: campy, dramatic, or dark. Add your guests' real names if you like.

2

We write the mystery

A complete, original plot with a victim, a killer, red herrings, and a web of clues that lets the table solve it. Usually 15-25 minutes; we email you when it is ready.

3

Print and play

Download the host guide, one booklet per character, name tags and ballots. Or send each player a private link to read their part on their phone.

Questions hosts ask

Do guests need to dress up for a fashion week murder mystery?

It helps, but one statement piece is enough. The kit assigns roles across the atelier, the front row, and the crew, so a black T-shirt with a lanyard is as much a costume as a gown. Gather & Gasp's booklets describe each character's look to help guests plan.

Can I run this for a bachelorette party?

It is one of our most popular bachelorette picks. Cast the bride as the designer's muse or the editor-in-chief, rename the characters after the group, and run it before a night out. Kits generate in about 20 minutes and print at home.

How many people does the runway theme need?

Eight to ten is ideal so you have models, staff, and a full front row. The kit supports 4 to 20 players and balances clues so a small atelier or a huge show both play cleanly.
