Hollywood Premiere Murder Mystery Party
Red carpet, flashbulbs, and a star who never sees the credits roll.
6-20 players, sweet spot 12 路 the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.
Present day, the night a studio has bet a summer on. The premiere is at a restored movie palace on Hollywood Boulevard with a red carpet, a step-and-repeat, and a velvet-roped after-party upstairs. The cast has arrived: the leading star whose contract is up, the director who cut her best scene, a co-star on the rise, a publicist managing three scandals at once, an agent with ten percent of everyone, and an entertainment journalist with a source inside the studio. Before the credits roll, the star has missed her cue for good.
A premiere mystery is loud, glossy, and full of people who are used to being watched. Guests pose for photos, give interviews to each other, and lie with a smile. The kit hands out rivalries, contracts, and leaked footage, and lets the group work out who benefits from a star's sudden absence. Accusations happen on the carpet and in the green room. The reveal is the biggest scene of the night: dim the lights, cue the spotlight, and let the guilty party take the last bow.

Who is at the party

The Director
He cut the star's best scene three days before the premiere and told the press it was her idea.
The Publicist
She is managing three scandals, one of them her own, and her phone has the only copy of a video the studio wants gone.
The Rising Co-Star
His name moves up the poster if the lead's comes down, and he has already been measured for the sequel.
The Entertainment Journalist
She has a studio source, a story ready to publish, and a seat two rows behind the star's.
Setting the scene
Costumes
- A floor-length gown or a sequined cocktail dress with a clutch and heels you will kick off by round two.
- A slim black suit with an open collar and sunglasses at night for the leading man.
- A publicist in a sleek blazer, an earpiece, and a phone glued to one hand.
- A journalist with a press lanyard, a notepad, and a blazer over a band T-shirt.
- A paparazzo in a vest, a big camera around the neck, and the flash on.
Food and drink
- Champagne in flutes on a tray at the door, with sparkling elderflower in matching glasses for the sober crowd.
- Popcorn in striped boxes, movie-palace style, with truffle salt for the VIP section.
- Sliders and mini tacos passed on trays, the after-party menu of every premiere in Los Angeles.
- A dessert bar of macarons in the film's colors and a small sheet cake iced with its title.
Atmosphere
- A red carpet runner from a party store to your front door with a step-and-repeat backdrop made from a bedsheet and printed logos.
- String lights, a spotlight or two, and a marquee-style sign with the film's title over the entrance.
- A playlist of blockbuster soundtracks, Hans Zimmer, and pop at after-party volume.
- Velvet ropes, VIP wristbands, and a Green Room sign on a closed door.
Host tip
Open with a red-carpet arrival: photograph every guest in character as they come in and ask them one interview question. It puts everyone in role before the booklets open. Print a fake call sheet and a leaked trade headline as props. Between rounds, run press conferences where suspects answer questions from the room. For the reveal, dim the lights and put a spotlight on the accused before the envelope is opened.
How your kit comes together
Set the table
Pick Hollywood Premiere, your player count and gender mix, the difficulty, and the tone: campy, dramatic, or dark. Add your guests' real names if you like.
We write the mystery
A complete, original plot with a victim, a killer, red herrings, and a web of clues that lets the table solve it. Usually 15-25 minutes; we email you when it is ready.
Print and play
Download the host guide, one booklet per character, name tags and ballots. Or send each player a private link to read their part on their phone.
Questions hosts ask
Can I run this as an Oscars party?
Yes, and it is a popular pairing. Play the mystery before the ceremony or during the commercial breaks, with the reveal timed for the last envelope. The printable kit is ready in about 20 minutes, so it works even if you decide on the afternoon of the show.
Does it work for a large group?
The premiere is one of our best big-group themes. Gather & Gasp kits support up to 20 players and every character, from the star to the paparazzo, is generated for your exact headcount.
Do guests need to know the film industry?
No. The booklets explain who each character is and what they want, and the setting borrows from every awards show your guests have half-watched. Anyone who can say we should do lunch is ready.
