Sorority House Murder Mystery Party

Bid night at the chapter house. Every sister has a secret. One has a motive.

6-14 players, sweet spot 10 · the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.

It is bid night on Greek row and the house is at its best: fresh flowers on the grand staircase, the composite photos of every pledge class since 1962 polished on the wall, and the alumnae board in town to toast the new members. The chapter president has a speech ready. The house mother has a list of rules nobody reads. Then the lights flicker during the candle ceremony, and when they come back on, one sister is lying at the foot of the stairs with her pearls scattered across the marble.

Playing it feels like a campus drama with the gloves off. Sisters, big-little pairs, a rival house president, and an alumna who controls the chapter's money all have something to hide: a stolen test bank, a secret boyfriend from the wrong fraternity, a vote that was rigged. Clues turn up in group chats, ritual books, and the chapter minutes. Accusations get very polite and very personal. Your kit gives every guest a sister, a secret, and a reason to be on that staircase.

Perfect for

Perfect for bachelorette weekends, sorority and college reunions, milestone birthdays, and any friend group that still quotes the movies about Greek life.

Cast size

6-14 players, sweet spot 10. Every kit is written for your exact headcount and gender mix, so nobody doubles up and nobody sits out.

Who is at the party

A taste of the cast a sorority house kit produces. Your mystery is written fresh, with its own suspects, secrets, and one guilty guest.

The Chapter President

Runs every meeting by the book and has spent all semester hiding one entry in the chapter minutes.

The Legacy Pledge

Her mother and grandmother both wore the letters, and she would do anything not to be the one who loses them.

The Alumnae Advisor

Flew in for bid night, controls the house renovation fund, and knows exactly where last year's dues went.

The Rival House President

Came over to offer a friendly toast and was seen on the back stairs twenty minutes before the lights went out.

Setting the scene

Costumes

  • Matching sorority letters on a sweatshirt or tee, ironed on with felt letters from a craft store.
  • A little white dress and pearls for the bid-night candle ceremony.
  • A pastel cardigan, a headband, and a clipboard for the chapter president.
  • A tailored blazer and a vintage pin for the alumna who graduated decades ago and never really left.
  • Athleisure, a scrunchie, and an iced coffee for the sister who rolled out of bed for the meeting.

Food and drink

  • A pink champagne toast for the new members, with sparkling pink lemonade in the same flutes for anyone skipping the alcohol.
  • Late-night chapter snacks: a pizza delivery spread, a bowl of candy in the house colours, and a sheet of brownies.
  • Tea sandwiches and petit fours for the alumnae reception, served on the good china the house mother guards.
  • A cupcake tower iced with the house letters, with one cupcake conspicuously missing when the guests arrive.

Atmosphere

  • Tape paper Greek letters over the doors and hang a Welcome New Members banner on the stairs.
  • Print a composite board of every character as a framed chapter photo, with one frame turned face down.
  • Playlist: early 2000s pop and whatever the bid-day chant is set to, then candlelight instrumentals for the ceremony.
  • Set a candle-lighting table with tea lights, a ribbon, and a leather-look ritual book for the opening scene.

Host tip

Open with a candle ceremony: every guest lights a tea light and states their character name and pledge class, and the host blows out one candle and announces the death. Keep a printed stack of fake chapter minutes on the coffee table as a shared evidence file. For the reveal, hold a mock chapter vote with the accusation ballots and have the president read the result like standards board delivering a verdict.

How your kit comes together

1

Set the table

Pick Sorority House, your player count and gender mix, the difficulty, and the tone: campy, dramatic, or dark. Add your guests' real names if you like.

2

We write the mystery

A complete, original plot with a victim, a killer, red herrings, and a web of clues that lets the table solve it. Usually 15-25 minutes; we email you when it is ready.

3

Print and play

Download the host guide, one booklet per character, name tags and ballots. Or send each player a private link to read their part on their phone.

Questions hosts ask

Is a sorority murder mystery good for a bachelorette party?

It is one of the easiest themes for a bachelorette weekend: the dress code is pearls and letters, the cast is mostly women by default, and the drama writes itself. Gather & Gasp kits are written for your exact headcount and gender mix, so a group of eight friends gets eight distinct sisters.

Do guests need to have been in a sorority to play?

No. Each character booklet explains the house, the traditions, and who everyone is, so nobody needs to know what a big-little reveal is before arriving. No acting experience is needed either; the booklet tells each player what to do each round.

Can we keep it light and not too dark?

Yes. Set the tone to campy for rivalries, rigged elections, and melodrama, or dramatic for a classic whodunnit. Kits never include hazing violence or graphic detail, and the death is discovered, not described.
