Rock Band Reunion Tour Murder Mystery Party

Twenty years after the breakup, the encore ends before the frontman.

6-12 players, sweet spot 8 路 the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.

The band swore they would never share a stage again. Then the streaming royalties dried up and the reunion tour was announced. Tonight is the after-party for opening night: the original lineup, the replacement drummer, the manager who negotiated the split, the roadies, and a rock journalist writing the oral history. Somewhere between the green room and the tour bus, the frontman misses his own encore. The setlist is over. The old feuds are just warming up.

Playing it feels like a documentary where every talking head is lying. Everyone has a songwriting credit they dispute, a rider they abused, and a secret from the last tour. Accusations come with guitar-solo energy. Clues hide in setlists, contracts, and backstage passes. Your kit hands each guest a member of the entourage, a grudge, and a set of clues to work through. The reveal is the final encore, played to a room that already knows the words.

Perfect for

A hit for 40th and 50th birthdays, reunions of old friends, and anyone whose group chat still argues about the best album.

Cast size

6-12 players, sweet spot 8. Every kit is written for your exact headcount and gender mix, so nobody doubles up and nobody sits out.

Who is at the party

A taste of the cast a rock band reunion tour kit produces. Your mystery is written fresh, with its own suspects, secrets, and one guilty guest.

The Original Drummer

Was fired before the first platinum record, got a settlement instead of a credit, and turned up tonight uninvited.

The Manager

Negotiated every contract, including the ones the band never read, and has a tour insurance policy in the bus safe.

The Lead Guitarist

Wrote the riff that made the band famous, is listed second on the credits, and has been talking to a lawyer.

The Rock Journalist

Is writing the definitive band biography, has interviewed everyone, and knows which stories were true.

Setting the scene

Costumes

  • Leather jacket, band tee, and aviators worn indoors for the frontman who has never been off stage.
  • A denim jacket covered in pins and patches, drumsticks in the back pocket, for the drummer.
  • Black jeans, black T-shirt, a coiled cable and a roll of gaffer tape for the roadie who saw everything.
  • A blazer over a vintage tour shirt with a laminated ALL ACCESS pass for the manager.
  • A fringed suede jacket or a velvet blazer with too many rings for the guitarist who peaked in the nineties.

Food and drink

  • A whisky and ginger green-room cocktail, served in a plastic cup with a Sharpie name on it.
  • A rider table: bowls of candy sorted by colour, a veggie tray nobody touches, and a plate of deli sandwiches.
  • Ice-cold root beer and cream soda in glass bottles for the sober bassist who is the only one who remembers the tour.
  • Late-night pizza delivered mid-party, the way every tour ends.

Atmosphere

  • Print a fake tour poster with the band name and a list of dates, one of them crossed out.
  • Lay out a handwritten setlist on the table, tape a few to the walls, and hide a clue on the back of one.
  • Playlist: classic rock and nineties alternative anthems at full volume, cut to a single acoustic track for the reveal.
  • Hang backstage-pass laminates for each guest with their character name and role on the band's crew.

Host tip

Print laminated backstage passes with each character's name and hand them out at the door; it sets the pecking order immediately. Use the setlist as your round structure: each song title on the printed setlist marks a round, and you play through it. When you reach the encore, kill the playlist and hand a toy microphone to each accuser in turn. Read the solution as the band's last press statement.

How your kit comes together

1

Set the table

Pick Rock Band Reunion Tour, your player count and gender mix, the difficulty, and the tone: campy, dramatic, or dark. Add your guests' real names if you like.

2

We write the mystery

A complete, original plot with a victim, a killer, red herrings, and a web of clues that lets the table solve it. Usually 15-25 minutes; we email you when it is ready.

3

Print and play

Download the host guide, one booklet per character, name tags and ballots. Or send each player a private link to read their part on their phone.

Questions hosts ask

Can I make the mystery about a real band my friends love?

You can rename characters and set the band's name to anything you like in the Gather & Gasp customize step. The kit invents the backstory and the murder fresh, so nothing about a real band gets used, but your guests will recognise the archetypes.

Is this a good theme for a milestone birthday?

It is one of our best. A reunion-tour framing suits any group that has been friends for decades, and the costume brief is a leather jacket most people already own. Kits scale from 4 to 20 players and take about 20 minutes to generate.

Do we need musical instruments as props?

No. A few printed setlists, some laminated passes, and a loud playlist do the job. If someone owns a guitar, it makes a great accusation-round talking stick, but the character booklets contain everything guests need.
