馃幙 Holiday 路 Winter
Snowed-In Ski Lodge Murder Mystery Party
The pass is closed, the fire is lit, and the chairlift came down empty.
6-12 players, sweet spot 8 路 the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.
The storm hit at four and the mountain road closed at five. Now the lodge is full: the owner's family, a ski instructor, a couple who booked the honeymoon suite, the chef, the lift operator, and a guest who arrived just before the snow did. There is a fire, a stocked bar, and no phone signal. The last chairlift of the day comes down with nobody on it. The owner went up. The owner did not come down. Nobody leaves until the plough arrives.
Playing it feels like a classic snowbound whodunit with fondue. Everyone is trapped, everyone is warm, and everyone is lying about where they were during the last run. Ski passes, lift logs, and a locked equipment shed hold the clues. Accusations are murmured by the fire and shouted across the boot room. Your kit gives each guest a lodge role, a secret, and clues to follow through the snow. The reveal comes at first light, when the road is finally clear.
Perfect for
A natural for winter birthdays, holiday parties, ski trips, and cabin weekends, and a cozy alternative to a formal Christmas dinner.
Cast size
6-12 players, sweet spot 8. Every kit is written for your exact headcount and gender mix, so nobody doubles up and nobody sits out.
Who is at the party
A taste of the cast a snowed-in ski lodge kit produces. Your mystery is written fresh, with its own suspects, secrets, and one guilty guest.
The Ski Instructor
Has taught on this mountain for twelve seasons, knows every off-piste route, and was seen heading up alone after the lifts closed.
The Owner's Daughter
Stands to inherit the lodge, wanted to sell it to the resort next door, and found the deeds moved from the office safe.
The Lift Operator
Logs every chair that goes up and every one that comes down, and has one entry that does not match.
The Late Arrival
Checked in minutes before the road closed, booked under a name the register does not recognise, and knows the owner from somewhere else.
Setting the scene
Costumes
- A chunky knit sweater, a beanie, and ski goggles pushed up on the forehead for the lodge regular.
- A red instructor's jacket (or any bright ski shell) and a whistle for the mountain staff.
- Flannel pyjamas, thick socks, and a mug that never leaves your hand for the guest who never planned to ski.
- A puffer vest, a turtleneck, and a lift pass clipped to the zipper for the weekend skier.
- An apron over thermal layers and a wooden spoon in the back pocket for the lodge chef.
Food and drink
- A cheese fondue pot with bread cubes, cornichons, and boiled potatoes for dipping, kept warm on a burner.
- Mulled wine with orange slices, cloves, and a cinnamon stick, simmered on the stove all evening.
- A hot chocolate bar with whipped cream, marshmallows, and peppermint sticks for the non-drinkers and the kids.
- A raclette or a tray of baked brie with cranberry for the lodge's late-night bar menu.
Atmosphere
- Turn off the overheads and light the room with a fire (real or on a screen), candles, and string lights.
- Print a lift log for the day with times and chair numbers, and a snowfall report pinned by the door.
- Playlist: crackling-fire ambience under acoustic folk and slow jazz, with wind sound effects when a clue drops.
- Stack thrift-store skis or poles by the entrance, pile blankets on every chair, and hang a Road Closed sign on the front door.
Host tip
Make the snowstorm part of the game. Post a weather update at the start of each round from the host guide (the plough is delayed, the pass is still closed) to keep the pressure on. Give every guest a blanket and a mug; comfortable players stay in character longer. Do the accusation round by firelight only. For the reveal, announce that the road has opened and read the solution before anyone can leave.
How your kit comes together
Set the table
Pick Snowed-In Ski Lodge, your player count and gender mix, the difficulty, and the tone: campy, dramatic, or dark. Add your guests' real names if you like.
We write the mystery
A complete, original plot with a victim, a killer, red herrings, and a web of clues that lets the table solve it. Usually 15-25 minutes; we email you when it is ready.
Print and play
Download the host guide, one booklet per character, name tags and ballots. Or send each player a private link to read their part on their phone.
Questions hosts ask
Can I play the snowed-in ski lodge mystery on an actual ski trip?
It is the ideal apres-ski evening. Print the booklets before you go, since mountain Wi-Fi is unreliable, and play by the fire after dinner. The kit needs a table, 4 to 20 players, and about two hours.
Does the lodge theme work as a holiday party alternative?
Yes. It has all the winter warmth of a Christmas theme without the tinsel, which suits mixed groups or office parties that want a seasonal feel. Gather & Gasp lets you rename characters and set the tone from cozy to sinister.
What if we do not have a fireplace?
Play a fireplace video on a TV, light every candle you own, and turn the thermostat up. The snowbound feeling comes from the story, the lift logs, and the printed Road Closed sign; the kit provides the rest.
