Alien Embassy Gala Murder Mystery Party
Translated toasts, nine species, one table, and a treaty that dies with its author.
8-16 players, sweet spot 10 · the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.
The Concordance Embassy orbits a neutral moon, and tonight it hosts the signing gala for a treaty three decades in the making. Delegates from a dozen worlds mingle beneath a chandelier of captured starlight, sipping each other's ceremonial beverages with cautious politeness. Human diplomats rehearse their bows. Translators mutter into their earpieces. The ambassador who wrote the treaty is due to sign at the third bell. The bell rings, the signature never comes, and the embassy doors seal by protocol.
The gala plays as high comedy with higher stakes. Every guest represents a species with its own manners, so accusations arrive wrapped in etiquette and get unwrapped very quickly. Delegates accuse each other of mistranslation, ceremonial insult, and stolen data crystals. A misread gesture becomes a motive. The human attache turns out to know more than they should, and the caterer has never been vetted. By the final toast, alliances have shifted twice and the whole room votes on who broke the peace.
Perfect for
Costume-loving friend groups, sci-fi conventions and fan clubs, and adult birthday parties where guests want a licence to invent an accent and a species.
Cast size
8-16 players, sweet spot 10. Every kit is written for your exact headcount and gender mix, so nobody doubles up and nobody sits out.
Who is at the party
A taste of the cast a alien embassy gala kit produces. Your mystery is written fresh, with its own suspects, secrets, and one guilty guest.
The Human Attache
Junior enough to be ignored and senior enough to have read the treaty's secret annex, which is now missing.
The Vashti Trade Envoy
Represents a species that communicates through colour shifts and has been flashing an unsettling shade of red all evening.
The Chief Translator
Every word spoken tonight passed through their earpiece, including the ones that were never translated.
The Embassy Caterer
Has fed every species without incident for years, and tonight nobody can find the ingredient list.
Setting the scene
Costumes
- A metallic or iridescent top with a scarf worn as a sash across the chest reads as galactic diplomatic dress.
- Face paint in one bold colour, green, blue, or silver, plus a headband with pipe-cleaner antennae.
- A tailored dark suit with a bluetooth headset worn as a translator earpiece for the human delegation.
- A hooded robe in a single strong colour, thrift-store curtain fabric works, for a species that keeps its face hidden.
- A bald cap or slicked-back hair, silver eyeliner, and a high-collared shirt for the ambassador's aide.
Food and drink
- A colour-changing 'ceremonial toast' of butterfly pea tea that turns purple when lemonade is added, no alcohol needed.
- A tray of 'homeworld delicacies' that are really dumplings, edamame, and lychees, each labelled with an invented species.
- Black sesame and squid-ink crackers with cream cheese, presented as the embassy's most controversial canape.
- A tall layered cocktail in green and blue for the signing toast, with a sparkler if you are feeling ceremonial.
Atmosphere
- String lights over mirrored trays under the glassware for a starlit chandelier effect, with purple and teal bulbs.
- Play orchestral space scores and ambient electronica, then cut to silence for the third bell and the sealed doors.
- Print small flags for each invented species and stand them along the table like a summit.
- Set the table with mismatched metallic chargers and hang silver foil strips in a doorway as the embassy's airlock curtain.
Host tip
Embrace the invention. Before the party, ask each guest to bring one custom for their species: a greeting, a taboo, or a way of toasting. It costs nothing and gives every conversation a hook. The treaty itself makes a great centrepiece; print a grand document, seal it with wax, and leave the signature line empty. Time the third bell as your act break, and let the reveal happen as the delegates decide who signs on the ambassador's behalf.

Questions hosts ask
How much do guests need to prepare for an alien embassy party?
Very little. The Gather & Gasp booklets carry the character, the motive, and the secrets, so all a guest brings is a costume and a willingness to bow strangely. No acting experience is needed; the funniest delegates are usually the most deadpan.
Can we mix humans and aliens in the cast?
Yes, and it works better with both. The generator writes the cast around your guest list, and a human delegation among alien envoys gives the party an outsider's view to argue from. You can go from 4 to 20 players and the embassy feels busy either way.
Is this theme funny or serious?
Whichever you choose. Campy tone makes it a comedy of intergalactic manners; dramatic makes it a political thriller with a body; dark leans into assassination and espionage. The theme carries all three without changing the costumes.
