The Midnight Court Murder Mystery Party
Fae, vampires, werewolves and witches, one ballroom, and one broken truce.
6-16 players, sweet spot 10 · the full kit is ready in about 20 minutes. Or name your guests and see who they play, with the opening scene, free in about 30 seconds.
Once a century the supernatural houses meet at the Midnight Court to renew the truce that keeps them from each other's throats. The fae arrive in glamours, the vampire lords in velvet, the werewolf clans in borrowed formalwear they plainly resent, and the witches' coven brings the wine. Everyone wears a mask, because that is the oldest rule of the court. Then the keeper of the truce is found drained, scorched and silvered all at once, and every faction has a reason to blame another.
This is a dark fantasy party built on factions. Every guest belongs to a house with its own loyalties, and every guest has a private agenda that cuts across them: a forbidden romance with an enemy, a stolen spell, an ancient curse that only one death could break. Alliances shift by the hour and nobody is quite what their mask suggests. At the reveal the truce either holds or falls, and the room finds out which monster was the real one.

Setting the scene
Costumes
- Black or deep red formalwear and an ornate mask; every faction can start from the same base and add one sign of its house.
- Pointed ear tips, shimmer makeup and leaves or flowers in the hair for the fae.
- A high collar or cape, dark lipstick and a signet ring for the vampires.
- Faux fur on the shoulders, a flannel or leather layer under a blazer, and a claw-mark scarf for the werewolves.
- Layered black lace, crystal jewelry and a vial on a chain for the witches.
Food and drink
- A blood-red punch or red wine served from a decanter, with a sparkling cherry mocktail for non-drinkers.
- Rare roast beef sliders or mushroom bites for the wolves, and a platter of dark chocolate and berries for the vampires.
- Honey cakes and edible flowers on a fae table that guests are warned never to eat from.
- A cauldron of mulled cider ladled by whoever is playing the coven.
Atmosphere
- Four corners of the room dressed for four houses: moss and flowers, velvet and candles, fur and antlers, crystals and herbs.
- Low red and violet lighting, with a full moon projected or hung as a paper lantern over the room.
- Dark orchestral or gothic music, and a bell rung at midnight to open the final accusations.
- A long table with the truce scroll laid out for signing, sealed with wax, and a quill no one is allowed to touch.
Host tip
Lean into the houses. Seat or group guests by faction for the first round so loyalties feel real, then let the booklets pull people across the room toward secret allies. Give each house a corner of the space and a small prop to claim it. Keep the masks on until the final round. The best moment of the night is when two guests from rival houses realize they have been protecting each other, so leave time for the betrayals to play out before the reveal.

Questions hosts ask
How is this different from Vampire Court?
Vampire Court is one coven turning on itself. The Midnight Court brings every supernatural faction together, so the game is about rival houses, a fragile alliance, and secrets that cross faction lines. It works especially well for larger groups.
Is it too dark for some groups?
You choose the tone when you create the kit. Dark keeps it gothic and dramatic; Campy turns the werewolves' table manners and the vampires' ego into comedy. The mystery and the clues work the same either way. Kits scale from 4 to 20 players.
Do guests choose their own faction?
The kit assigns each character a house, and you assign characters to guests. If someone has a favorite creature, add it as a note when you build the mystery and we will write a character to fit.
